Looking into the mirror
Although in the beginning of this project I had some preconceived notations of the impacts of social media on the identity of a teenager like when people ‘comment’ on posts, it negatively affects and causes people to change how they behave, I managed to research and creating the product, enabled me to understand- what point is the behavior of a teenager affect.
I was able to gain subject-specific knowledge in English and with some help from a friend who takes psychology. Writing a book that was accessible while covering several topics in depth allowed me to improve not only my writing skills, but specifically my explanation skills
I also enhanced my understanding of the global context chosen Identities and Relationships. Researching on how tough experiences on social media have shaped people’s identities, I was able to understand how heavily a person’s personality can be changed due to alteration in their identity. Moreover, my observing the relationships people formed on social media differed from those that were formed in real life I was able to better understand the relationships that people form with their social media platforms and how this affected the balance in their social life.

REFLECTION AS AN IB LEARNER
I developed communicator, inquirer and thinker skills throughout my project.
Communicator
As a communicator, I expressed myself confidently and creatively using collaborations by conducting surveys and taking different perspectives into consideration. I learned how to communicate questions in a way that all audiences will understand and be comfortable to answer.
Inquirer
I had some prior knowledge about psychology and social media however I was more curious about primary research. I had to analyze my primary research results, and so I also created a survey collecting 117 responses. Through my firsthand research I was able to attain new knowledge about the way social media shapes one’s identity. During the publishing process I was able to increase my proficiency in editing and other publishing tools.
Thinker
As a thinker I was able to use both critical and creative thinking skills to analyze my content and exercise initiative to make reasonable decisions. I used creative thinking skills during the designing of my book’s cover page and how my content will be distributed. I used my critical thinking skills to make decisions of what content to add, where to add and how to cover all topics while keeping the targeted audience engaged.
